Playing Small Does not Serve the World

Posted in Uncategorized

One of my all-time favorite quotes is often attributed to Marianne Williamson but I’ve also seen another version attributed to Nelson Mandela.  Here’s the MW version:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

I went ahead and bold-typed every little phrase that I think I’m going to turn into a product.  I started today with this necklace that’s made in the USA and you can order it here: https://www.gearbubble.com/playingsmall

We’re not raising robots

Posted in Uncategorized

screen-shot-2016-11-28-at-1-24-25-pm“We’re not raising robots who need programming, we’re raising adventurers who need a tool kit”  I love this quote! As an unschooling mom, I often find myself in worlds where people “don’t get” the freedom I allow my children. And I’m lucky, mine have never been terrible inappropriate socially, but I feel for my friends who have struggled with maintaining relationships or limiting social encounters because their kids weren’t ready for it.  I think it’s a great reminder that the goal of parenting isn’t to turn kids into perfectly compliant little robots, but eager explorers and agents of change in their world.

This design is available as tote bags, journals, posters, T shirts and even pillow cases. Wherever you need that reminder, you can get it.

Insignificant Journal

Posted in Uncategorized

I was playing around with the design templates for the journals and decided to make a very insignificant journal with a quote from Aesop that really rings true for me:

Our insignificance is often the cause of our safety

-Aesop

It’s so true… What can possibly go wrong?  There’s no one decision you can make that will “ruin everything.”  In the face of overwhelming ANYTHING, just do it.  Just get it done. Just get out of the feeling of overwhelmedness because it’s always caused by inflated feelings of importance which simply aren’t true.  The truth is that you really don’t matter much.  None of us do, we are but tiny specks in the universe.  We aren’t here to obsess over mundane details of life like “Who should I marry” and “Should I get a different job.”  We’re just here and since that’s the case, we might as well relax.

Play is Children’s Work

Posted in Uncategorized

Kids don’t learn best sitting at desks and being spoon-fed information.  Kids learn best when they’re interested, engaged and exploring their world.  This is a quote from Fred Rogers.  Also known as Mr Rogers from the 1970’s TV show, Mr Rogers was a great guy who understood the importance of make-believe in children’s educational development.

Play is the work of childhood (Mr Rogers)
Quote from Mr Rogers; “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning but for children play is serious learning. Play is the work of childhood” – Fred Rogers quote

Bible Quote Tshirts Just in Time for Christmas

Tis the season to toss around bible quotes like they’re going out of style, but some are so eloquent that they’ll never go out of style.  Like Ezekiel 23 19:21 which technically states “Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt. For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.” but I thought it would be funnier if I replaced the word “issue” with the word dick because that’s what they mean (Fun fact: That’s how biblical translations work)
